Changes to my Study Programme

This year i made a striking with my specialty classmates to modify our study programme because it had many problems that had not been solved in many years. One of our biggest problems were the programs of the subjects, being outdated and very far from the current reality. We also encountered another problem, when studying physical anthropology (or also called biological) the subjects were focused on teaching only biology, leaving aside all the social theory that we required to be anthropological truths. For this we demanded a reorganization of the programs of these subjects so that they had a more anthropological orientation. 

On the other hand, we also found problems with the schedules demanded by these subjects, since the requirement of these was above the stipulated level of the study program, being for us as students very difficult to maintain a healthy student life rate. Against this situation we asked for a readjustment in the hours of study and that these were similar to the credits of each subjects.

Another point of conflict was the infrastructure of the laboratories that we used for our classes, since these were in poor cleaning conditions and are currently very small for the number of students we are currently in the specialty. In addition, the technological materials that are in the laboratory (such as the computer or data) are very old, so they are difficult to handle and very slow. I hope that in the future more laboratories will be enabled within the faculty to improve the conditions of study.

Finally, the professors who dictated these subjects maintained antiquated formations, that do not conform with what the world anthropology area is currently needing. For this, we talked to the teachers to respect the programs of the subjects and dictate the subject they wanted or according to their personal tastes.

Personal Opinion

In this post i will write my personal opinion about a series of things. To begin, i will write what i think about the entry of women into the military. I'd say that women have the right to be able to enter all kinds of work, be it in the private or public sphere, like the military forces. Also, it is time for military forces to open up to the entry of women because it has always been a closed job for men, from reasons, in my opinion, false, such as little strength or resistance to pain on the part of women.

Another topic on which i want to present my opinion are the Chilean politicians. It's seems to me that these people do not think about the good of the people they represent and are not interested in generating policies in favor of those who elected them. I think that Chilean politicians are very corrupt because they only want to obtain that position for their personal benefit, that is, to increase their status and their wealth, so that Chilean society should wake up and do something against these politicians.

On the other hand, my point of view about the legalizing marijuana and other drugs is to be in favor of the legalization of marijuana but not of other drugs because i thnik the medicinal use of marijuana is scientifically proven a long time ago because i believe that the medicinal use of marijuana is scientifically proven a long time ago since it has been of great help for those suffering from chronic illnesses such as cancer. However, i believe that other types of drugs do not have any benefit for the population since they only cause disadvantages for those who consume them, so legalizing them would be a great risk for the population.

Finally, I will give my opinion on the legalization of abortion in the 3 causes. I'm pretty sure that this law is one of the best things that could have happened for women because it's necessary that women can decide about their body and not that other people make decisions about what to do with their pregnancy. However, I hope this is only the first step to approach a free abortion law in which we are no longer dependent on what others want for us because we are independent beings with the right to decide on our bodies, our decisions and, above all, our lives.

Postgraduate Studies

In my opinion, i believe that in the social sciences area it is necessary to do postgraduate studies because the requirement in the works is high and there is also a lot of competition to find work among people in this area. With a few jobs and a larger number of students, the final decision is based on who has more studies and degrees, so if i'm still being interested in working on what i study, Physical Anthropology, i must study a postgraduate. 

I would be interested in having gender courses, related to cultural construction, development in Latin America, corporal aspects, among other similar themes. With those courses i could be able to understand, from another point of view, the bioarchaeological remains with which he works, or even, in order to better understanding of living populations. On the other hand, i would like to do my postgraduate studies in a specialized country in this area, such as Mexico or England. However, if I did not have the opportunity, there are very good postgraduate about gender in the University of Chile. As i mentioned before, i would like to go to study in another country, since i believe that the best way to learn is to be in person in the field.  I hope that the study schedules in other countries are more flexible than in Chile because the class schedules tend to be messy, so it gets very difficult to have time to go out with friends or to do recreational activities.

My future job

i imagine that my work will be outdoors, not in a office or building. I imagine it because i hope to work in an excavation site helping to identify bioarcheological remains. However this implies that you must work inside a laboratory to analize the remains found, such as bones or the things associated with them. I would like to travel through Chile doing this activity, wheter work in the north or south would be more interesting, especially since the south of Chile has not been very studied in regards to bioarqueologic remains. Also, i would be very happy if would exist the possibility of going to work to other south american countries more far away from Chile. In relation to salary, from what i have found, at present the labor market is very closed and scarce, especially if you are a woman, because men dominate this area of work, so finding work is very difficult but on the other hand, the people i know and work in this comment that the salary is high, so this work is well rewarded.

I'm not specialized yet, but when the time arrives i hope it will be in the area of bioarcheology to learn about the societies that inhabited the territory and maybe make some important discoveries for the history of the country.

What does Douglas Rushkoff say about the evolution of technology and human beings

The writter Douglas Rushkoff present in his video "Team Human" his position about the evolutionary of technology and it's relationships with human beings. The author argues that the evolution of technology has not been used to "optimize" the future of human beings, but that it's currently used to "optimize" human beings and make them better for the labor market. On the other hand, he says that the evolution is a "collaborative act", but the digital age is increasingly distancing us from this idea because it is distancing us as human being by making us believe that people are adversaries within the competition for work or social position.

In my opinion, the writter presents an a interesting point about the globalized world of which we are part. On the one hand i think that it's necessary as societie taken consciences about the damage that is being done to people and the consequences it implies for communication between peoples. To finish, i thnik that if things continue in this way, in the not too distant future we will live and breathe for technology.

A subject i enjoyed at school

My career: Physical Anthropology

I chose to study antrhopology because i was interested in the speciality of archeology offered by the Universidad de Chile. This university was the only that offered me the posibility of choosing a different speciality but to continue with the anthropological training that i wanted.

As i commented in my previous posts, as a child i was interested in the history of the population, especially i wanted to dedicate my life to digging pyramids and those things that one imagines as a child for movies or television shows. However when i entered the university i realized that archeology was not for me because it seemed very boring and i did not like it. On the other hand, i started to get interested in other speciality, Phsysical Antrhopology, which is my current speciality. I'm interested because we study not only the customs of the past population and their organization, but also we study the human biology and it's interaction with social behavior. This is how i work with mummies and skeletons but i would also like work with living peoples in related areas public health or violence.

The Best Holiday

First of all I would like to travel and know all the world, obviously that's a big deal but this topic I really love for that reason with my boyfriend called Sebastián, we took our backpacks and we went to Peru, it was amazing, we visited Cusco and Lima, maybe you were wondering how long it was, our travel took about one month, in the whole travel we used to walk and go to the museums and the principals markets in the cities that we were, also we hitchhiked to move between the cities that we visited. As you know the best side of travel is learn about other cultures and as an anthropologist i'm always looking forward to that experience, in Peru I could find a peace of history, indeed our history, the history of our native peoples, that's opened my eyes because it's different study something to see the real evidence, anyway Peru keeps allot of native customs, i could be talking about this forever but i have to finsh, finally i want to say that Peru has the best food that i have ever eaten.

México: A country I would like to visit

I have always dreamed of knowing Mexico, because when i was a child  i used to warch programs related to their old history and even now i still find it fascinating. 

What i know about Mexico is related above all to its ancient cultures such as the Maya or the Aztecs because i had a subject called prehistory where i learned about these cultures, the monumentality of their cities and the complexity of their societies. On the other hand, now Mexico is a country with a rich and diverse culture because of it history and the inmigration of people from other South American countries.  

I would like to visit this place because it's very interesting and i think i could learn a lot about their ancient and present cultures. I would also like to go to study to get a master because Mexico has one of the best qualified universities (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) in the area that i study, anthropology.

Evaluation of my Blogging Experience

My experience writing blogs was fun but also a little bit stressing because it is indeed interesting and nice to write diverse stories about oneself on the internet but on the other hand it is complex and sometimes hard to express some ideas in a different language. Even though, writing blog posts has taught me the language on a more dynamic and different way, because it has been easier and amusing. Somehow, learning to write this way, exposing our own ideas and stories about diverse aspects of everyday life is far easier than making an essay or being too serious as in the normal subjects we are coursing, because it is a lot lighter task.

Nevertheless, I would like that we could realize more activities and posts about our careers specifically because we can express our ideas more freely and it helps us to develop our English concerning the activities we will realize in the future. It will also allow us to comment the posts with our classmates in a better way, since we’ll have more things in common.

Also, I would like to add that the themes of the post relate a bit more with the personal interests of the students, so they get more attractive and generate a better and more diverse discussion, so it won’t be necessary that everyone writes about the same topic or to focus in the same aspects of life, giving us the possibility to choose some topic we would like to write about.
